Beginner Wheel Throwing Class

What you'll learn

During the 3-hour session, you'll be shown the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing, including:

• Preparing and wedging your clay
• Setting up and using the pottery wheel
• Centring your clay
• Opening and pulling up the walls
• Shaping your pot
• Finishing and trimming the basics
• Understanding how to control clay on the wheel

You'll have plenty of time to practise and we'll be there throughout the session to give you individual guidance and help you get to grips with the wheel.

Your finished piece

At the end of the session, you'll choose one of your favourite pieces for us to finish, glaze and fire for you.

Your finished pot will then be ready to collect from Shed Ceramics approximately 3–4 weeks later.

Additional pieces can be fired for £20 each.

When are the sessions?

Every Saturday

Morning: 9:00 – 12:00am
Afternoon: 15:00 - 18:00pm

Sessions are kept to a small group so that everyone gets plenty of help and time on the wheel.

No experience needed

You don't need any previous pottery experience — complete beginners are very welcome.
