Our 6-week Beginners Wheel Throwing Course is designed for complete beginners who want to learn the foundations of wheel throwing in a relaxed, friendly studio environment.

Across six weekly 3-hour sessions, you'll learn the essential techniques needed to confidently create your own pots on the wheel. Each week builds on the last, giving you plenty of time to practise, develop your technique and get comfortable working with clay. On completion of this course you will qualify for our membership program.

Class Information

What you'll learn

Throughout the course, we'll cover:

  • Preparing and wedging clay
  • Setting up and using the pottery wheel
  • Centring clay
  • Opening and pulling up the walls
  • Controlling the thickness of your pot
  • Shaping and refining forms
  • Creating different basic vessel shapes
  • Trimming and finishing your work
  • Understanding how clay behaves on the wheel
  • Developing your confidence and throwing technique

You'll receive demonstrations and individual guidance throughout every session, with plenty of hands-on time to practise your skills.

Who is it for?

By the end of the six weeks, you'll have a solid understanding of the throwing process and the confidence to continue developing your skills.
