About Us

Welcome to Shed Ceramics!

Founded by Max Longhurst in 2026, we strive to create a relaxing, low pressure creative environment, where makers can thrive, experiment and expand their skills.

Max took up pottery during the pandemic whilst living in the Canadian wilderness. His lifetime of design and engineering experience sees him to approach ceramics from a technical perspective, and his love of nature, surfing and Caribbean music inform his design choices. Having spent most of his life in Hong Kong before travelling around South East Asia, Canada and New Zealand, Max returned to the UK, where he was born, to spend more time with his family and friends. He established The Shit Shed Shaper in 2019, making surfboards and ceramics, and his success selling functional ceramics on Etsy encouraged him to take his dream to the next level and establish his studio here in Evesham. Ultimately ceramics appealed to him because it had a far better environmental impact than chopping up pieces of plastic foam!

He established the business with help from his partner Marnie, and they live on a narrowboat together cruising along the River Avon in Evesham. Marnie is an Artist, Historian and TV Producer and she got hooked on ceramics when Mudlarking on the shores of the Thames led her to discover potsherds and clay pipes which told the history of British civilisation. Her work for an LGBT+ Traveller Collective also draws her eye to bright coloured funky glazes which she utilises in her work as Glazy Bitch!

At Shed Ceramics, the team strive to make ceramics accessible, affordable and free from pretention. Max’s skill set in 3D modelling and computer aided design brings something new to the ceramics industry. He not only designs pottery tools, but also prints stamps and moulds to create unique items that draw together both the earthy nature of the ceramic medium and the innovative technology of computer aided design.
